Everything you need to set up ZorvGuard and run your first class.

Getting started

Most schools are running their first class within an afternoon:

  1. Create your school's account. Start a free trial from the homepage, or use the setup link in your welcome email.
  2. Install the extension on student Chromebooks from the Google Admin console (below). This is the only step that needs your IT admin.
  3. Invite teachers from Staff. Each teacher gets an email to set their password.
  4. Create a room and put its join code on the board. Students join from the ZorvGuard extension.
  5. Start class from Live room.

Install on Chromebooks with Google Admin

ZorvGuard is a Chrome extension that your IT admin force-installs, so students can't remove it.

  1. In ZorvGuard, open Device setup and copy your school's enrollment key and policy.
  2. Go to admin.google.com → Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → Users & browsers.
  3. Select the organizational unit that contains your students.
  4. Click + → Add Chrome app or extension by ID, and paste the ZorvGuard extension ID.
  5. Set the installation policy to Force install.
  6. In Policy for extensions, paste the policy from Device setup. It looks like this:
{
  "orgKey": { "Value": "your-school-enrollment-key" }
}

Click Save. Chromebooks pick up the extension the next time they sync, usually within a few minutes (restarting a device speeds it up).

Students must be signed in to Chrome with their school Google account so ZorvGuard can match them to rosters. Students who aren't signed in can still join a room with a code.

If you ever think the enrollment key was exposed, click Rotate on Device setup and update the policy in Google Admin.

Rooms & join codes

A room is a class period or group. Create rooms from My rooms.

Running a class

Open Live room, pick a room, and click Start class. Screens only appear while a room is in session.

When you click End class you get a recap of attendance, hands, polls, and messages.

Filtering

School-wide filtering applies to every enrolled device, all the time, on and off campus. Admins set it on Filtering.

Override passwords

Admins can set a block-page override password on the Filtering page. A teacher or IT staff member can type it on any blocked page to unlock that site on that one device for 15 minutes to 4 hours.

Safety alerts

Safety alerts are off until an admin turns them on in Filtering. When on, the extension checks searches on Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, and YouTube against phrases that suggest self-harm or violence. Only matching searches leave the device.

Alerts are a prompt for a trained adult to check in. They aren't a diagnosis and won't catch everything. ZorvGuard doesn't contact families or emergency services. If a student may be in immediate danger, call 911.

Troubleshooting

A student's Chromebook doesn't show up

"This link doesn't work" on a setup link

Setup links work once and expire after 7 days. Ask an admin to click New link on the Staff page, or sign in if you already set a password.

A site is blocked that shouldn't be

Add it to Always allowed on the Filtering page, or approve the student's unblock request. For a one-off, use the override password on the blocked page.

Students see "Not connected"

The device can't reach ZorvGuard. Check the internet connection and that your network allows guard.zorvcloud.com, including WebSocket connections.
